Scientists surveying an ocean area targeted for deep-sea mining have shown how much is left to discover about the biodiversity of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, a five-million-square-kilometre region in the central Pacific Ocean. We are a nonprofit systems change incubator. We work with industry players, technologists, and NGOs to create business solutions to ocean challenges. But there’s no other option. The machine will soon be deployed not in the huge pits of an opencast mine on land but in the sunless depths a mile underwater on the ocean floor. On completion of studies a graduate will: -to do designing and construction works in scope of ocean engineering, -to do development works in scope of maritime technology, -to manage of production, exploitation and repairs of ships and others, -to use computers and other new technology, -to know foreign language on level B2 of European System -to work in multi-international teams, -to be ready to studying on higher level. A new ocean cleanup prototype is being deployed on the North Sea today. It is one of the last steps as we prepare to launch the first cleanup system in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch this summer. To understand how we arrived at this point, here is a brief history of the North Sea prototypes, and the reasons why we’re deploying another… GCOS Implementation Plan 2016   !NEW! More information The deep ocean houses an ecosystem that has learned to thrive without sunlight or warmth. Welcome to the abyss. Each bracelet purchased removes one pound of trash from the ocean. The gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn, are thought to lack surfaces and instead have a stratum of liquid hydrogen, however their planetary geology is not well understood. The possibility of the ice giants Uranus and Neptune having hot, highly compressed, supercritical water under their thick atmospheres has been hypothesised. Although their composition is still not fully understood, a 2006 study by Wiktorowicz and Ingersall ruled out the possibility of such a water “ocean” existing on Neptune,[60] though some studies have suggested that exotic oceans of liquid diamond are possible.[61] Some delegations were already hostile, but Pardo was well prepared and passionate, even lyrical. The dark oceans, he said, “were the womb of life”. He then quoted John Mero’s research into the “astounding” contents of the billions of nodules lying untouched on the seabed – enough aluminium to last 20,000 years, zirconium for 100,000 years and cobalt for 200,000 years. We give youth access to high-level conversation and a platform to showcase their ideas and solutions that can protect our ocean. We foster the entrepreneurial spirit of our members and challenge them to design creative policy and business solutions. SOA currently supports over 160 youth-led sustainability projects around the globe. Covering 72 percent of the Earth and supplying half its oxygen, the ocean is our planet’s life support system—and it’s in danger. Watch this video to learn why a healthier ocean means a healthier planet, and find out how you can help. One reason fish are so diverse is that 70 percent of the planet is covered in water. The animals in this group live in a variety of habitats ranging from coral reefs and kelp forests to rivers, streams, and the open ocean. Another is that fish are very old on the evolutionary scale. According to fossil records, they have been on Earth for more than 500 million years! The total number of living fish species—about 32,000— is greater than the total of all other vertebrate species (amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals) combined. It’s time to give our ocean our full attention. If a zone undergoes dramatic changes in temperature with depth, it contains a thermocline. The tropical thermocline is typically deeper than the thermocline at higher latitudes. Polar waters, which receive relatively little solar energy, are not stratified by temperature and generally lack a thermocline because surface water at polar latitudes are nearly as cold as water at greater depths. Below the thermocline, water is very cold, ranging from −1 °C to 3 °C. Because this deep and cold layer contains the bulk of ocean water, the average temperature of the world ocean is 3.9 °C.[citation needed] If a zone undergoes dramatic changes in salinity with depth, it contains a halocline. If a zone undergoes a strong, vertical chemistry gradient with depth, it contains a chemocline. The Soft Robotic Fish, aka SoFi, is a hypnotic machine, the likes of which the sea has never seen before. In a paper published today in Science Robotics, MIT researchers detail the evolution of the world’s strangest fish, and describe how it could be a potentially powerful tool for scientists to study ocean life. Theoretical models have been used to predict with high probability that GJ 1214 b, detected by transit, is composed of exotic form of ice VII, making up 75% of its mass,[70] making it an ocean planet. What can antique corals reveal about the impact of climate change on the ocean? The Nature Conservancy’s Rob Weary explains how the group brokered an innovative financing deal that could serve as a model for ocean protection in island developing nations.13 days ago Although no-one has yet started mining the ocean floor, dozens of research expeditions are under way “at an intense pace”, says Michael Lodge, from the International Seabed Authority. The bluish color of water is a composite of several contributing agents. Prominent contributors include dissolved organic matter and chlorophyll.[31] Mariners and other seafarers have reported that the ocean often emits a visible glow which extends for miles at night. In 2005, scientists announced that for the first time, they had obtained photographic evidence of this glow.[32] It is most likely caused by bioluminescence.[33][34][35] On 1 November 1967, a UN committee was meeting in New York and the ambassador from the island nation of Malta was invited to speak. Dr Arvid Pardo faced an uphill struggle. He was suggesting that the deep oceans should be reserved for peaceful activities and that the mineral wealth should be shared by all of mankind. The ocean is not only home to dolphins and jellyfish, whales, and sharks. It’s also a museum where stories about life on the sea, not recorded in the books, are discovered. Uncover the human stories behind shipwrecks, including some of the most famous ones, including the Titanic. Are you ready to go back in time? To niezwykle miła pogawędka dwojga wyważonych, pogodzonych z losem ludzi, którzy ową harmonią, spokojem i ciepłą atmosferą czarują czytelnika od pierwszych słów. Czy zatem mamy szansę natrafić w… 4Ocean is a global movement actively removing trash from the ocean and coastlines while inspiring individuals to work together for cleaner oceans, one pound at a time.
